Horizon Aero Group Outlines Bold Social Value Commitments for Gloucestershire Airport

Horizon Aero Group Limited (HAG), the incoming owner of Gloucestershire Airport Limited (GAL), has unveiled a comprehensive Social Value Charter designed to transform the airport into a thriving, sustainable and inclusive regional hub. The charter embeds measurable social, economic and environmental benefits for Gloucestershire and the wider region as HAG progresses toward acquisition from Gloucester City Council and Cheltenham Borough Council.

The approach is guided by six core principles focused on: skills & employment, regional growth, community & culture, health, safety & wellbeing, environmental stewardship, and responsible procurement. Early commitments include a year-one public review of jobs, suppliers, emissions and accessibility; quarterly stakeholder forums; a procurement policy refresh; apprenticeships and internships within 12 months; and sourcing at least 30% of electricity from renewables by the end of year three.

This is more than an investment in infrastructure — it’s an investment in people, place and planet,” said Soma Pemmireddy, CEO, Horizon Aero Group.

The update also confirms a leadership transition at GAL, with Managing Director Jason Ivey stepping down in January for personal reasons while supporting a smooth handover. Recruitment for a new Managing Director will begin shortly.

Cllr Rowena Hay, Leader of Cheltenham Borough Council, welcomed the “positive and long-lasting impact” expected from the social value commitments and thanked Mr Ivey for his contribution to a seamless transition.

HAG reiterated its pledge to safeguard the airport’s long-term aviation future through aviation-led growth, innovation and sustainability — aligning operational improvements with community value and environmental responsibility.
